![]() This brings us back to Intel’s announcement that a debug mode could be enabled via physical access. The entire Trusted Compute Model is based on the premise that the CPU itself is trustworthy. It was pointed out that TPM 2.0 can encrypt the disk encryption key on the traces, making this attack impossible. It’s effective, at least, when nothing goes wrong.Įarlier this year, we covered a story where the encryption key could be sniffed directly from the motherboard, by tapping the traces connecting the TPM to the CPU. When combined with secure boot, this is a surprisingly effective way to prevent tampering or data access even in the case of physical access. The TPM chip holds this encryption key and provides it during the boot process. The goal of the system around the TPM is to maintain system integrity even in the case of physical access by an attacker, so the hard drive is encrypted using a key stored in a secure chip on the motherboard. Intel has announced CVE-2021-0146, a vulnerability in certain processors based on the Atom architecture, and the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is at the center of the problem. ![]() Video after the break.Ĭontinue reading “How To Forge A Skillet From Scratch” → Posted in Misc Hacks Tagged blacksmith, blacksmithery, forge, forging It’s nice to see some keeping the old methods alive, too. The project shows just how many special skills are required to make even simple cookware by hand. Finally a handle attached with some stout rivets, and the newly formed piece of cookware gets a seasoning with sunflower oil. A belt sander takes off high points on the outside, and a torch is then used to square up the base of the pan so it sits nicely. ![]() Slowly, as the metal is beaten one way and then t’other, the skillet begins to form. A forge is then used to heat the blank so that it can be shaped into a pan using a hammer. The blank is spun up and the outer perimeter ground down thinner with an angle grinder in what looks like a moderately sketchy operation. The build starts with a round disc of steel serving as a blank for the project. has just that, however, and set about forging a stout-looking skillet from scratch. Cookware isn’t something we typically build ourselves you’d want a well-equipped metal shop to do the job and do it right.
